How is inability to bear weight treated?
Short answer
Inability to bear weight is treated by urgent assessment, protecting the limb and addressing the cause, which may require immobilisation, surgery or infection treatment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What it can indicate
Sudden inability to stand or walk can follow a fracture, tendon rupture or major sprain. An Ankle Fracture, Hip Fracture or Tibial Plateau Fracture may need imaging and strict limits on weight. Achilles Tendon Rupture can make pushing off difficult. A hot, painful joint with fever raises concern for Septic Arthritis, which needs urgent medical care.
The assessment may include checking circulation, sensation, swelling, tenderness and joint stability. Do not force the leg to carry weight while waiting to be assessed.
What to do now
Keep the limb supported and avoid walking on it. Use crutches only if you have been shown how to use them safely. Elevate an injured limb when comfortable, and use a cold pack wrapped in cloth for short periods if this helps swelling. A Walking Boot Immobilisation may be prescribed for selected injuries; its use and weight limits must be set by a clinician.
When to seek care
Seek urgent medical assessment for any new inability to bear weight, especially after a fall, twist or direct blow. Go to emergency care for a deformed limb, severe swelling, an open wound, a pale or numb foot, severe pain out of proportion, or fever with a hot swollen joint.
Questions for your doctor
Do I need an X-ray or another scan? How much weight may I place on the limb? What should I watch for in my toes or skin, and when should the boot or crutches be reviewed?

Questions people ask
Should I try to walk through the pain?
No. Avoid forcing weight onto a limb that cannot support you until a clinician has assessed it.
Can a walking boot treat every cause?
No. A boot may protect selected injuries, but fractures, tendon injuries and infection need different care.
