How is Hodgkin lymphoma treated?

Your team chooses treatment after confirming the lymphoma and assessing where it is in the body, whether it is causing symptoms, and how well you are otherwise. Chemotherapy uses medicines that travel through the bloodstream to reach lymphoma cells. Radiotherapy directs high-energy treatment at selected areas and may be used after chemotherapy or for a focused site. The plan may involve several treatment visits followed by scans and clinical reviews.

If Hodgkin lymphoma comes back or does not respond adequately, doctors may recommend stronger treatment followed by an autologous stem cell transplant. This uses your own collected stem cells after intensive therapy. Fertility preservation can be discussed before treatment because some cancer medicines may affect reproductive function.

Ask for a written schedule showing medicines, scans, blood tests, and expected review points. Tell the team about medicines, allergies, infections, and any plans for pregnancy. Discuss fertility preservation before treatment begins if this matters to you. During therapy, report fever, new symptoms, or difficulty eating and drinking promptly so the team can assess them.
