How is body odour treated?

Sweat itself is usually not strongly scented. Odour develops when skin bacteria break down sweat, especially in the underarms, feet, groin, or skin folds. A clinician may look for heavy sweating, irritation, or a bacterial condition such as bromhidrosis, erythrasma, or pitted keratolysis.

Initial care can include regular washing, careful drying between toes and folds, clean breathable clothing, and an antiperspirant rather than deodorant alone. Antiperspirant reduces moisture; deodorant mainly masks or limits smell.

Apply an over-the-counter antiperspirant to dry skin as directed, change socks and shirts after sweating, and avoid sharing towels.
