How effective is workplace ergonomic assessment for text neck?

Short answer
Workplace ergonomic assessment can ease text-neck strain by improving screen height, viewing habits and task variation, although it is only one part of recovery.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What text-neck support involves
An assessor looks at the positions you use while working, reading or checking a phone. They may adjust the monitor so you do not keep bending your neck, bring the keyboard and mouse within easy reach, and suggest a setup that lets your shoulders relax. They also consider how long you stay in one position and whether your work can be alternated with other tasks.
Text neck describes neck discomfort or strain associated with prolonged forward-looking device use. An assessment can remove repeated aggravators, but it cannot by itself determine whether pain comes from muscle overload, a joint, a nerve or another condition. More background is available in [Text Neck](/conditions/text-neck/).
Ways to apply the advice
Show the assessor your real work pattern, including laptop use, phone viewing and meetings. Follow changes such as raising a screen, supporting the forearms, changing position regularly and holding a phone closer to eye level when practical. Gentle neck movement between tasks may help prevent stiffness; stop an exercise that causes spreading pain, dizziness, tingling or weakness.
Keep a simple record of which activities bring symptoms on and whether they settle after changing position. If your work requires frequent device use, ask for several workable options rather than relying on one rigid posture. See [Workplace Ergonomic Assessment](/treatments/physiotherapy-and-rehabilitation/workplace-ergonomic-assessment/) for the service overview.
When to seek care
Seek a clinical review when neck pain keeps returning, limits sleep or movement, or does not improve after sensible activity changes. Get prompt medical help for new arm weakness, persistent numbness, trouble walking, severe headache with neck stiffness, or symptoms following a major impact. These features need assessment beyond a workstation review.
Questions for your doctor
Which neck movements or activities should I modify first? Would physiotherapy exercises be suitable for me? Do my arm symptoms suggest nerve involvement? How can I continue essential screen work while symptoms settle?

Questions people ask
Will changing my desk setup remove text-neck pain immediately?
A better setup may reduce aggravation, but irritated tissues can take time to settle and may need exercises or other care.
Is phone use included in an ergonomic assessment?
Yes. Tell the assessor about phone viewing, laptop work and any other device habits that reproduce your symptoms.
