How effective is vertebroplasty for vertebral compression fracture?

During vertebroplasty, a clinician guides a needle into the collapsed vertebra and injects bone cement to stabilise the treated area. The procedure is intended to target pain from an active, painful fracture; it does not restore every aspect of the vertebra or correct all spinal curvature.

Back pain may also come from discs, joints, muscles, nerves, or another fracture. Imaging and examination help determine whether the painful vertebra matches the symptoms. Bone fragility remains relevant after the procedure, so preventing further fractures requires a separate plan.
