How effective is PGT-A for implantation failure?

PGT-A tests cells taken from an embryo created through IVF and looks for gains or losses of whole chromosomes. An embryo reported as having a typical chromosome number may still fail to implant because of uterine factors, embryo development, transfer conditions or chance. A result showing an abnormality may mean that embryo is less suitable for transfer, although testing has limits and does not assess every genetic or developmental issue. The test is a selection tool, not a complete explanation for recurrent implantation failure.

Ask the fertility team to review the previous transfers, embryo development, uterine assessment and any medical factors before deciding. Discuss how many embryos may be available for biopsy, what happens when a result is unclear, and whether testing could leave no embryo suitable for transfer. Confirm how results guide transfer planning and whether genetic counselling is recommended. Keep the decision focused on your history rather than assuming chromosome testing is the only next step.

After an embryo transfer, follow the clinic's instructions and seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, breathing difficulty or marked swelling. During fertility treatment, report fever, severe pelvic pain or symptoms suggesting ovarian hyperstimulation promptly. Emotional distress after failed treatment also merits support from the clinic or a qualified counsellor.

Ask what PGT-A could add in your specific history, which other causes of implantation failure have been assessed, and how mosaic or inconclusive results would be handled. Ask about biopsy effects, the chance of having no transferable embryo, and alternatives to testing.
