How effective is lip filler for thin lips?

Most lip fillers use a gel that attracts water and is placed in selected areas of the lips. Treatment can enhance the border, add central fullness, improve asymmetry or soften lines around the mouth. It cannot change the underlying jaw or tooth position, and adding more product is not always the best way to improve balance. Swelling and bruising can make the lips look larger or uneven at first, so the early appearance is not the final result.

Choose a qualified medical injector who examines your lip shape at rest and during movement. Discuss whether you want subtle definition or more noticeable volume, and review the product, injection sites, expected swelling and aftercare. Avoid rubbing or putting pressure on the lips while they settle, and follow instructions about exercise, heat and makeup. Tell the clinician about allergies, previous filler, cold sores and medicines that affect bleeding.

Call the clinic urgently for severe or worsening pain, pale or dusky skin, unusual coolness, or changes in vision after filler. These symptoms can signal impaired blood flow and need prompt assessment. Increasing redness, warmth, pus or fever may indicate infection and also requires medical review.
