How effective is IPL photofacial for spider veins?

Spider veins are visible small blood vessels. IPL sends filtered light into the skin, where selected blood vessels absorb the energy and may gradually become less apparent. Fine facial vessels can be a more suitable target than larger, deeper or prominent veins, and treatment may not reach every vessel in a network.

A red line is not always a spider vein. New, painful, warm, swollen or one-sided leg veins need medical assessment rather than cosmetic treatment. The clinician will consider the body area, vessel pattern, skin tone, tanning and medicines before recommending IPL or another option.

Show the clinician exactly where the vessels are and mention easy bruising, clotting problems, medicines, recent tanning and any history of unusual healing or pigment change. Ask whether IPL is suitable for the location and whether another vascular procedure would be more precise.

Follow instructions about sun avoidance, shaving, skincare and cooling. Protect treated skin afterwards and avoid picking or vigorous rubbing. Results are judged after healing, not by the immediate colour of the skin during the appointment.

Contact the treating clinic for blistering, severe pain, marked swelling, spreading redness or a concerning colour change. Seek urgent medical care for a leg that becomes suddenly swollen, painful, warm or short of breath symptoms occur; those features are not routine cosmetic concerns.
