Electrosurgery can effectively reduce bulky rhinophyma tissue and improve the nose contour, although results vary and further treatment may sometimes be needed. It is most useful when a dermatologist or dermatologic surgeon can match the treatment depth to the thickness and shape of the affected skin. The aim is usually to create a smoother, more proportionate contour while limiting injury to healthy tissue.

Rhinophyma is an advanced form of rosacea in which oil glands and skin tissue on the nose become enlarged, producing a thickened or bulbous appearance. Electrosurgery uses an electrically heated instrument to remove or reduce selected excess tissue and control bleeding during treatment.
