How common are pimples in fungal acne?

Fungal acne is a common name for Malassezia folliculitis. The pimples may be fairly uniform and can feel itchy or prickly. They often cluster on the forehead, hairline, chest, shoulders, or upper back, especially where heat, sweat, or occlusive products are involved. Ordinary acne and folliculitis can overlap in appearance, so a label based on pictures alone may be misleading.

Wash gently after heavy sweating, change damp clothing, and avoid picking or aggressive exfoliation. Review oily hair and skin products with a clinician or pharmacist if breakouts began after a product change. Do not repeatedly switch between acne and antifungal treatments without guidance; the wrong approach can irritate skin or delay the correct diagnosis.

Book an assessment when itchy, uniform pimples persist, recur, or cover the trunk, or when self-care causes irritation. Seek prompt care for marked swelling, spreading redness, pus with worsening pain, fever, or involvement near the eyes.
