How common are stopped periods in Asherman Syndrome?

With Asherman Syndrome, periods may become very light, arrive irregularly, or stop. Some people also have pelvic pain that follows a monthly pattern because blood or tissue cannot leave the uterus normally. Stopped periods alone do not identify the cause; pregnancy, hormonal changes, and other conditions can produce the same symptom.

Arrange a gynaecology assessment if your periods have stopped, especially after a uterine procedure, miscarriage treatment, or infection. Evaluation may include a pregnancy test, hormone checks, and imaging or a camera examination of the uterine cavity. Treatment is guided by whether scar tissue is present and how much it affects the cavity.

Seek urgent care for severe or worsening pelvic pain, faintness, fever, or heavy bleeding. Contact a clinician soon if periods stop unexpectedly, pain keeps recurring without bleeding, or you could be pregnant. These features need assessment even when Asherman Syndrome is being considered.

Ask whether a recent uterine event could have caused scarring, which tests can examine the uterine cavity, and whether your symptoms suggest trapped menstrual blood. You can also ask how treatment may affect future bleeding and fertility.
