How common is pelvic pain in endometriosis?

Endometriosis-related pain may feel like deep aching, cramping, burning, or sharp pain. It may occur before or during a period, during sex, or when passing stool or urine. Some people have pain between periods, while others have extensive disease with little pain. The symptom does not reveal its cause on its own; pelvic pain can also come from other reproductive, urinary, or bowel conditions. Assessment usually starts with a detailed history and examination, with imaging when appropriate.

Seek medical advice if pain repeatedly interrupts daily life, does not respond to usual measures, or is associated with painful sex, bowel symptoms, or difficulty becoming pregnant. Track timing, severity, bleeding, bowel and bladder changes, and medicines tried. Treatment may include pain relief, hormonal treatment, pelvic physiotherapy, or referral to a specialist. Your preferences and pregnancy plans should be part of the discussion.

Get urgent help for sudden severe pain, fainting, heavy bleeding, fever, persistent vomiting, or feeling seriously unwell. If pregnancy is possible, pelvic pain with bleeding, dizziness, or shoulder-tip pain needs prompt assessment because other urgent conditions must be excluded.
