How common is night sweats in brucellosis?

Brucellosis is an infection that can cause a general inflammatory response. Sweating during sleep may happen as body temperature changes, sometimes with fever, chills, weakness, joint or muscle aches and reduced appetite. Night sweats can also result from other infections, medicines, hormonal changes or a warm sleeping environment, so the symptom does not establish the diagnosis. Exposure history matters, including contact with livestock or consumption of unpasteurised dairy products in an area where brucellosis occurs.

Arrange medical review if night sweats recur with fever, unusual tiredness, aches or an exposure that could carry infection. Record when sweating happens, your temperature if measured, recent travel, animal contact, food exposures and medicines. Drink fluids and keep the bedroom comfortably cool. Do not start leftover antibiotics, because the correct treatment depends on the clinical assessment and testing.

Seek urgent help for confusion, difficulty breathing, fainting, severe weakness, persistent vomiting, a severe headache or signs of dehydration. Prompt assessment is appropriate for recurring drenching sweats with fever, unexplained weight loss, severe joint pain or a weakened immune system.
