Short answer

Neck Pain is a common presentation of Cervical Radiculopathy and may occur with pain, tingling or weakness in the arm.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Associated symptoms
Arm pain, tingling, numbness or weakness may accompany neck pain.
Clinical check
Strength, sensation and reflexes help assess nerve function.
Urgency
Progressive weakness or walking difficulty needs prompt assessment.

Why the neck can hurt

Cervical radiculopathy occurs when a nerve root in the neck becomes irritated or compressed. Pain may stay in the neck or travel into the shoulder, arm or hand. Tingling, numbness or reduced strength can follow the path of the affected nerve. Neck movement, coughing or certain arm positions may change the symptoms, although patterns differ between people.

A clinician checks neck movement, sensation, reflexes and strength in the arms and hands. Most neck pain has other explanations, so neck pain by itself does not establish cervical radiculopathy. The examination helps decide whether monitoring, physiotherapy, medication advice or further testing is appropriate.

What to do next

Arrange an assessment when neck pain persists, travels into an arm, or comes with tingling, numbness or weakness. Keep gently active within tolerance and vary prolonged sitting or screen positions. Avoid forceful neck manipulation and heavy lifting that clearly worsens arm symptoms. A physiotherapist can guide movement and strengthening once serious causes have been considered.

When to seek care

Seek urgent medical care for rapidly worsening arm or hand weakness, new difficulty walking, loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, severe headache with neck stiffness, fever, or symptoms after major trauma. Prompt assessment is also needed when both arms or legs become weak or clumsy.

Questions for your doctor

Ask: Do my symptoms follow a cervical nerve pattern? Which movements should I continue or avoid? How will you monitor strength and sensation? Would physiotherapy or imaging change management? Which changes mean I should seek urgent help rather than wait for review?

Questions people ask

Can cervical radiculopathy occur without much neck pain?

Yes. Arm pain, tingling, numbness or weakness may be more noticeable than neck discomfort in some people.

Should I stop all activity with neck pain?

Usually, gentle movement within tolerance is preferable to complete rest, but severe or worsening nerve symptoms need medical guidance.
