How common is hip clicking and snapping in snapping hip syndrome?

Hip Clicking and Snapping is a very common presentation of Snapping Hip Syndrome. The sensation often comes from a tendon moving over bone as the hip bends or straightens.

Snapping hip syndrome can involve a tendon at the front, side, or back of the hip moving across a nearby bony prominence. The snap may be felt as well as heard and may happen during walking, rising from a chair, kicking, or rotating the leg. Some snapping is painless. Pain, tenderness, weakness, or a sense of catching suggests that the surrounding tissues need closer assessment.

Reduce movements that repeatedly trigger painful snapping and avoid stretching aggressively into the snap. Gentle comfortable movement, activity changes, and physiotherapy may address strength, flexibility, and movement control.

Arrange a review if snapping is painful, persistent, associated with weakness or locking, or limiting normal activities. Seek prompt care after injury if you cannot bear weight or severe pain prevents movement.
