How common is hip clicking and snapping in hip labral tear?

Hip Clicking and Snapping is a common presentation of Hip Labral Tear. The sound may occur with a catching sensation or deep pain when the hip bends, turns, or bears load.

The labrum is a rim of firm cartilage around the hip socket. A tear may cause groin pain, clicking, catching, stiffness, or a feeling that movement is not smooth. Some tears cause few symptoms, and clicking may also arise from tendons, joint shape, or other tissues. Because of this overlap, the presence of a click does not by itself diagnose a labral tear.

Record whether the click is painful, where the discomfort sits, and which movements bring it on. Avoid repeatedly forcing the hip into deep flexion or twisting under load if those actions cause catching or pain. Low-impact movement may be more comfortable while you arrange an examination. A clinician can combine your history with movement tests and decide whether imaging is appropriate.

Arrange an assessment if clicking comes with groin pain, locking, reduced hip movement, or difficulty sitting, walking, or exercising. Seek prompt care after trauma when you cannot put weight through the leg, pain is severe, or the hip appears out of position.
