How common is easy bruising in dengue fever?

Bruising may occur with fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle or joint aches, nausea, or a rash. Symptoms can change as the fever settles, so feeling cooler does not always mean the illness has passed. Bleeding from the nose or gums, abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, marked drowsiness, or breathing difficulty needs particular attention. Other infections and medicines can also cause bleeding, so assessment is needed for a clear diagnosis.

Seek medical advice promptly if dengue is possible, especially after travel or mosquito exposure in an affected area. Rest, take fluids in small frequent amounts, and use only fever relief recommended by a clinician. Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen unless a healthcare professional specifically advises them, because they may worsen bleeding. Keep track of fever, fluid intake, urine, bruising, and bleeding.

Go to urgent care for bleeding, severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, faintness, confusion, cold or clammy skin, difficulty breathing, very little urine, or inability to drink. Arrange prompt review if bruising is spreading or the person becomes unusually weak, even if the fever has started to improve.
