How common is easy bruising in anaemia?

A bruise forms when small blood vessels leak under the skin. Anaemia has several causes, and easy bruising is more relevant when it occurs with tiredness, pale skin, breathlessness, frequent nosebleeds, or bleeding from the gums. Easy bruising alone does not identify the cause. A clinician may review your symptoms, medicines, diet, and medical history, then arrange a blood count and other tests when appropriate.

Record when bruises appeared, where they are, whether they are enlarging, and whether you recall an injury. Mention aspirin, blood thinners, steroids, supplements, or medicines that can affect bleeding. Arrange a medical assessment if bruising is new, spreading, or happening alongside symptoms of anaemia. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without advice.

Seek urgent care for heavy or persistent bleeding, vomiting blood, black stools, severe weakness, fainting, confusion, chest pain, or trouble breathing. Prompt assessment is also needed for many new bruises with fever or a rapidly worsening illness, particularly in a child or someone already receiving treatment for a blood disorder.
