Short answer

Hot feet with restless legs at night may reflect nerve sensations, low iron, kidney disease or restless legs syndrome, but an assessment is needed to identify the cause.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Typical pattern
Worse at rest and during the night
Possible clues
Numbness, weakness or low iron symptoms
Protect feet
Avoid heat sources if sensation is reduced

What the sensations can mean

Restless Legs are an urge to move the legs, often with crawling, pulling, tingling or uncomfortable sensations that worsen during rest and at night. Warmth or burning in the feet can occur with Peripheral Neuropathy, which may also cause numbness or altered sensitivity. Iron Deficiency Anaemia can be associated with restless-leg symptoms, while Chronic Kidney Disease can affect mineral balance and nerve function. Restless Legs Syndrome is diagnosed from the pattern, not from hot feet alone. Tell your clinician whether movement helps, whether both feet are affected, and whether symptoms disturb sleep.

Ways to ease symptoms

Keep the bedroom comfortably cool and wear loose, breathable socks. Gentle walking, stretching, massage or a warm shower before bed may settle the urge to move. Keep a regular sleep schedule and limit caffeine late in the day. Check your feet for blisters or injuries if sensation is reduced, and avoid heating pads that could burn numb skin. Do not start Iron Supplementation without checking whether low iron is present and discussing the appropriate dose.

When to seek medical care

Arrange an appointment if symptoms are new, worsening, affecting sleep, or accompanied by numbness, weakness, swelling or balance problems. Seek urgent help for a suddenly cold or pale foot, severe one-sided swelling, new loss of movement, or chest pain and breathlessness. These features need assessment beyond routine restless-leg care.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether you need blood tests for iron and kidney function, a medication review, or an examination of nerve sensation. Explain your sleep pattern and list medicines, supplements and caffeine use.
