Homeopathic medicine for a stye

A stye is a tender, localised lump near the edge of the eyelid, often caused by inflammation around an eyelash follicle or oil gland. The lid may look swollen and red, and the eye can water. Eye Discharge or Red Eye can occur, but these symptoms also have other causes. A stye is not the same as every eyelid lump or eye infection.

Homeopathic products have not been shown to resolve the blocked or inflamed gland. Never put non-sterile drops, creams, or pellets into the eye, and do not share eye products or towels. Irritation can make an eye problem harder to assess.

Apply a clean, comfortably warm compress to the closed eyelid for several minutes, repeating it through the day. Wash your hands before touching the area, keep the eyelid clean, and avoid squeezing or piercing the lump. Pause eye makeup and contact lenses until the eye feels well. A pharmacist or clinician can advise whether any product is suitable, especially if you have eye disease or use other drops.

Arrange a GP Consultation if the lump is not improving, keeps returning, or is not clearly on the eyelid edge. Seek urgent eye care for vision change, severe pain, marked light sensitivity, pain with eye movement, swelling spreading around the eye, fever, or difficulty moving the eye. Get prompt advice for a young child or anyone with a weakened immune system.
