Tinea versicolor is a superficial yeast-related skin condition. It can create lighter, darker, or pinkish patches with fine scale, often on the chest, back, shoulders, or neck. Mild itch may occur, especially with heat or sweating. The colour can remain uneven after the yeast is controlled because pigment recovery takes time. This appearance is not the same as poor hygiene, and it is not usually spread by ordinary contact.

A clinician can confirm the diagnosis because several rashes cause pale or dark patches. Follow the recommended topical antifungal therapy or medicated shampoo therapy exactly as directed; oral antifungal treatment may be considered for selected widespread or recurrent cases.
