High Frequency Audiogram

During an audiogram, you listen through headphones and respond when you hear tones. The clinician records the quietest sounds you detect across different pitches. High-frequency results can help show whether the inner ear or hearing pathway is handling sharper sounds differently from lower sounds.

A result is interpreted alongside your symptoms, ear examination and previous tests. Earwax Buildup can affect hearing, while conditions such as Meniere's Disease may involve hearing changes with other ear symptoms. One test does not explain every possible cause.

Tell the audiologist about noise exposure, ringing, dizziness, ear infections and medicines that may affect hearing. Avoid loud noise before testing when possible, and follow instructions about responding to faint tones. Bring earlier hearing results so changes can be compared.

Ask what each ear's pattern means and whether you need a repeat test, hearing protection advice or referral. A Hearing Test may include additional measurements when the audiogram does not match your experience.

Seek prompt medical care for sudden hearing loss, especially in one ear, or hearing loss with severe dizziness, facial weakness, head injury or neurological symptoms. Do not wait for a routine audiogram to assess sudden change.

Arrange review for gradually worsening hearing, persistent one-sided symptoms, ear discharge or bothersome tinnitus. The timing depends on the pattern and accompanying symptoms.

Ask which frequencies were reduced, whether both ears are affected, whether wax or another ear problem could contribute, and what follow-up interval is appropriate.
