What should you know about HIFU for jowls?

Focused ultrasound sends energy to selected tissue layers beneath the skin. In the lower face, the intended response is gradual tightening that may make the jawline look more defined. The treatment does not physically remove excess skin, restore lost bone structure, or reliably replace volume where hollowness is the main concern.

The position and amount of soft tissue, skin elasticity, facial proportions, and the shape of the chin all influence the appearance of jowls. HIFU, radiofrequency skin tightening, thread lift, jawline filler, and facelift use different mechanisms and suit different patterns of change.

At consultation, describe whether the change is new, gradually developing, or associated with weight change. Bring details of prior fillers, threads, surgery, dental procedures, and energy treatments. Ask which layer will be treated, how the provider will avoid sensitive structures, what aftercare is needed, and how the result will be reviewed. Do not add another device or injectable before discussing it with the treating team.

Contact the clinic promptly for worsening pain, spreading redness, unusual warmth, drainage, fever, marked swelling, persistent numbness, or new facial weakness after treatment. Skin blistering or a clear change in colour also needs assessment. Seek urgent help if swelling affects breathing or swallowing, or if sudden neurological symptoms develop.
