What should you know about HIFU for forehead wrinkles?

High-intensity focused ultrasound, or HIFU, delivers concentrated sound-wave energy beneath the skin. The intended heat may stimulate tissue contraction and a longer-term healing response, so any visible change usually develops gradually rather than immediately. It does not remove the line from the skin surface, and results can vary with skin laxity, line depth, sun exposure, and facial movement.

Forehead wrinkles can be influenced by repeated lifting of the eyebrows as well as changes in skin structure. HIFU mainly targets tissue tightening; it does not work by temporarily relaxing the muscles that create expression lines. A clinician may therefore discuss other options, such as Botox, when movement is a major contributor. Dermal fillers are a separate approach and are not automatically suitable for the forehead or areas close to the eyes.

The forehead has important nerves, blood vessels, and structures around the eyes. Energy depth, placement, and device settings need careful control. Arrange review if the response is not settling as expected or if you are unsure whether a symptom is part of normal recovery.

Contact the treating clinic promptly for worsening pain, marked swelling, blistering, skin colour change, spreading redness, discharge, or persistent numbness or weakness. Seek urgent medical attention for new vision changes, severe eye pain, facial weakness, trouble speaking, or another sudden neurological symptom after treatment. These symptoms need assessment rather than being attributed to expected cosmetic recovery.
