Burning behind the breastbone or sour fluid rising into the throat fits heartburn, while stomach pain can range from upper abdominal discomfort to lower or one-sided pain. Acid reflux may cause the first symptom, but it does not account for every type of abdominal pain. Gastritis, gastroenteritis, food poisoning, gallstones, coeliac disease, Crohn's disease, and diverticular disease are other possibilities.
