Follicular unit extraction removes individual follicular units from a donor region, usually at the back or sides of the scalp, for placement in areas such as a receding hairline or crown. Small extraction sites and implanted grafts need time to settle.

It is common for the visible result to change in stages. Swelling, crusting, redness, sensitivity, or temporary shedding can occur. The eventual appearance depends on graft quality, placement, healing, hair characteristics, and continuing loss in native hair.

Before the procedure, disclose medicines, bleeding problems, allergies, smoking, scalp conditions, and previous surgery. Clarify the planned hairline, donor-area management, washing instructions, activity limits, and follow-up schedule.

Afterward, follow the clinic's washing and sleeping instructions, avoid scratching or picking, protect the scalp from strong sun, and restart products or exercise only when your team advises. Keep comparison photographs in consistent lighting.

Contact the clinic for bleeding that does not settle with the instructed pressure, worsening pain, spreading redness, increasing warmth, pus-like drainage, fever, or sudden changes in the donor or recipient area.
