H pylori and loss of appetite: what should you know?

Short answer
H pylori may reduce appetite through stomach irritation, nausea or early fullness, but persistent appetite loss needs assessment for other causes.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why appetite can change
An H pylori infection can inflame the stomach lining. Discomfort after eating, nausea, bloating or feeling full quickly may make food less appealing. Loss of appetite is also seen with infections such as gastroenteritis, influenza, COVID-19 and hepatitis A, and can accompany gastritis or a peptic ulcer. Depression and other health problems can affect eating too. Appetite loss alone cannot identify its cause.
Supporting eating and drinking
Try small, regular meals with foods you tolerate, and choose nourishing liquids if solid food feels difficult. Sip fluids throughout the day and monitor whether urination becomes noticeably less frequent. Record your weight trend, symptoms and medicines for your clinician, without trying to diagnose yourself from the pattern. If H pylori is suspected, testing can guide treatment; do not use leftover antibiotics.
When to arrange care
Arrange a medical review if appetite remains low, eating becomes difficult, or you notice ongoing vomiting, abdominal pain or increasing weakness. Seek prompt care for dehydration, black stools, vomiting blood, severe pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, confusion, or a rapidly worsening condition. Unintentional weight loss alongside poor appetite should also be assessed.
