Right-sided groin pain in women: what to know

Short answer
Right-sided groin pain in women can reflect muscle, hip or pelvic irritation, and the right location alone does not establish a diagnosis.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Location
- Right groin, inner thigh or deep hip area
- Relevant clues
- Movement triggers and abdominal, urinary or pelvic symptoms

- Assessment is guided by the full symptom pattern
How to interpret the pattern
A recent kick, run, change of direction or awkward step may irritate the adductors on that side. Deep pain with hip flexion, turning or prolonged activity can occur when the hip joint is irritated, including with hip impingement, a labral tear or hip osteoarthritis. The condition presents with groin pain; groin pain itself does not show that one of these conditions is present.
Because the right groin is near abdominal and pelvic organs, mention nausea, fever, urinary changes, bowel symptoms, unusual bleeding, missed periods or possible pregnancy. The timing and associated symptoms can matter as much as the pain location.
What you can do now
Pause sprinting, deep lunges and movements that sharply increase symptoms. Continue easy walking if it remains comfortable, and change position regularly rather than guarding the hip all day. Record triggers, pain spread, activity level and associated symptoms. A clinician can examine the hip, abdominal area and inner thigh, then decide whether physiotherapy or other assessment is appropriate.
Sports physiotherapy can be useful when the pain began during training or sport, with a gradual plan for strength, control and return to demanding movement.
When it needs prompt attention
Get urgent care for severe or escalating right-sided pain, fainting, fever, repeated vomiting, heavy bleeding, a painful bulge, or pain during pregnancy. Arrange an appointment when symptoms persist, interfere with sleep or walking, or recur with hip movement.
Questions for an assessment
Ask: Does the examination point more toward the hip, adductors or a pelvic source? Which symptoms should prompt same-day care? What activity is safe now, and how will progress be checked before sport or heavier exercise?

Questions people ask
Does right-sided groin pain always come from the hip?
No. The adductor muscles and pelvic or abdominal structures can also cause symptoms in that area.
Can I exercise with right groin pain?
Keep activity gentle if it is comfortable, but pause sharp or worsening movements and seek advice if symptoms persist.
