What should you know about groin pain after orchiectomy?

Short answer
Groin pain after orchiectomy can occur during healing, but increasing pain or new symptoms should be assessed by your surgical team.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the pain may mean
The incision, abdominal wall and tissues around the groin can remain tender after surgery. Bruising, tightness, swelling and altered sensation may accompany healing. Pain can also come from nerve irritation, a collection of fluid or blood, infection, a wound problem, or strain from activity. The timing, exact location, severity and pattern matter. Pain that improves gradually is different from pain that becomes stronger, spreads, or appears with fever or wound changes.
What to do now
Follow the discharge instructions about wound care, bathing, lifting and activity. Take prescribed pain relief as directed and do not add medicines or supplements without checking first. Supportive clothing and short, gentle walks may be appropriate if your team allows them. Keep a note of pain changes, swelling, temperature and medicines. If chemotherapy is planned, tell the oncology team about the pain before treatment begins; treatment timing and medicines may need coordination.
When to seek care
Contact the surgical team promptly for pain that is worsening rather than settling, fever, increasing redness, warmth, drainage, wound separation, marked swelling, or difficulty passing urine. Seek urgent care for severe sudden pain, fainting, heavy bleeding, or repeated vomiting. Use the emergency service if you feel acutely unwell or cannot reach your care team.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your pain pattern fits healing, how much activity is suitable, how the wound should look, which pain medicines are compatible with your treatment, and when a review or scan is needed.
Questions people ask
How long can groin discomfort last after orchiectomy?
Tenderness and altered sensation can persist while tissues heal. Your surgeon can explain the expected course for your operation and should review pain that is worsening or not following that course.
Can activity make the pain worse?
Lifting, stretching or strenuous movement can aggravate healing tissues. Follow the activity limits given by your surgical team and report persistent pain after activity.
