What should you know about gonorrhoea rapid test?

Testing may use urine or a swab from the throat, genitals, rectum, or eye, depending on exposure and symptoms. A rapid result is not automatically suitable for every body site, and a negative result may need context if testing occurred very soon after exposure or if symptoms continue.

Gonorrhoea can be present without symptoms. A rapid test does not replace a conversation about sexual contact, partner exposure, or testing for other sexually transmitted infections.

Tell the clinician when the exposure occurred, which sites were involved, and whether you have taken antibiotics. Follow collection instructions carefully and ask when the result is expected. If the result is positive, take prescribed treatment and ensure recent partners receive confidential assessment.

Avoid sexual contact while waiting for advice if infection is possible. Do not take antibiotics simply because a partner has symptoms; arrange testing and treatment through a clinician.

Seek same-day care for eye pain, discharge, light sensitivity, or vision change. Get prompt medical help for pelvic pain, fever, severe testicular pain, painful swollen joints, or a spreading rash, even if a rapid test is negative.
