What should you know about girdle after liposuction?

Liposuction temporarily leaves treated tissues swollen and sensitive. A compression garment can support the contours, reduce rubbing, and help you move more comfortably while swelling settles. It does not remove additional fat or guarantee a particular body shape.

A garment that is too tight can cause pressure, skin irritation, numbness, or impaired circulation. Fit may change as swelling decreases, and different body areas may need different designs. Do not substitute shapewear or adjust the garment based only on discomfort without contacting the clinic.

Wear the garment exactly as instructed, including when it may be removed for bathing or skin checks. Keep the skin clean and dry, inspect pressure points, and report blisters, increasing numbness, color change, or worsening pain. Gentle walking is often encouraged, but strenuous activity and soaking wounds should wait for clinical clearance.

Ask how to wash the garment and whether you need a second one. Attend scheduled reviews so the team can assess swelling, incisions, fluid collections, and fit. Compression is one part of recovery; it does not replace wound care or prescribed medicines.

Call your surgical team for increasing redness, warmth, drainage, wound separation, worsening one-sided swelling, or pain that is not settling. Seek urgent care for chest pain, sudden breathlessness, coughing blood, fainting, or a painful swollen leg. Remove a garment only as advised if it causes severe pressure or color change.

How long should I wear this garment each day? How tight should it feel? When may I change size? Which skin changes are expected? When can I exercise, drive, or sleep without it? Who should I call if swelling becomes one-sided?
