How to get rid of syringoma

Syringomas are small, firm bumps formed from cells around sweat ducts. They often appear in clusters, commonly around the lower eyelids, and may be skin-coloured or slightly yellow. They are not usually painful or harmful, but their appearance can be bothersome. Similar-looking skin bumps have different causes, so an examination is useful before treatment; do not assume every bump near the eye is a syringoma.

A dermatologist may offer electrosurgery, which uses controlled electrical energy to treat individual lesions, or CO2 laser resurfacing, which removes very thin layers of surface skin. Choice depends on the number, depth, location, skin type, and previous treatments. Healing can involve redness, crusting, temporary colour change, or tenderness. Avoid home burning, squeezing, or strong acids, particularly near the eyes, because scarring and irritation can follow.

Arrange a review if bumps bleed, ulcerate, grow quickly, become painful, change colour, or affect vision. Seek care promptly after a procedure if pain, swelling, warmth, discharge, or redness is worsening rather than settling. A new cluster of persistent bumps can be assessed alongside other symptoms such as skin bumps elsewhere.
