Short answer

To reduce sweaty palms, keep the skin cool and dry, try an antiperspirant, and discuss targeted treatment if sweating disrupts daily life.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What sweaty palms can mean

Excessive sweating can affect the palms even when the body does not need cooling. It may occur on its own or alongside another condition, medicine, hormonal change, anxiety, or low blood sugar. Palm sweating can make writing, using a phone, shaking hands, or handling tools difficult. A clinician can review when it started, whether it happens during sleep, which areas are affected, and any triggers.

Ways to manage palm sweating

Pat your hands dry rather than rubbing irritated skin, choose breathable gloves when practical, and notice whether heat, stress, caffeine, or spicy food worsens episodes. An antiperspirant containing aluminium salts may be applied to completely dry palms as directed; irritation can occur, so stop and seek advice if the skin becomes sore. A dermatologist may discuss iontophoresis, botulinum toxin injections, or microwave sweat gland treatment depending on the areas involved and your medical history.

When to seek medical care

Arrange an assessment if sweating is new, severe, occurs at night, begins after a medicine change, or interferes with work, sleep, or social contact. Seek urgent help for heavy sweating with faintness, confusion, chest discomfort, breathing difficulty, severe weakness, or signs of heat illness. These symptoms can accompany problems such as hypoglycaemia or heat exhaustion and need prompt evaluation.

Questions for your doctor

Ask what may be triggering the sweating, whether testing is needed, how to use an antiperspirant safely, and which treatment fits your palms. Ask about expected benefits, skin reactions, discomfort, maintenance visits, and what to do if symptoms return.
