German measles is another name for rubella. A person may have fever, swollen glands, joint pain or a rash, but the pattern is not reliable enough to diagnose infection at home. Rubella can spread through respiratory droplets, and infection during pregnancy may affect the developing fetus. A possible exposure is therefore relevant even without symptoms, while a rash can have many other causes.

Contact your obstetric team or GP consultation service as soon as possible after exposure or symptoms.
