Stones found incidentally may not need immediate treatment if they are not causing problems. Repeated biliary pain, inflammation, infection, jaundice, or a stone in a bile duct changes the plan. Clinicians consider the scan findings, examination, blood tests, general health, pregnancy status, and previous episodes.

When the gallbladder is the source of recurring symptoms, keyhole surgery to remove it may be discussed. If a stone is lodged in a bile duct, an endoscopic procedure may be used to clear the duct. Treatment is tailored to the location of the stone and the person's circumstances.

Arrange a GP consultation if attacks recur or affect eating and daily life. Until reviewed, keep meals moderate, avoid known triggers, and follow prescribed pain or nausea treatment as directed. Do not start a restrictive diet or supplement intended to dissolve stones without medical advice.

Go to urgent care for severe persistent abdominal pain, fever, jaundice, repeated vomiting, confusion, or fainting. These symptoms may indicate obstruction, gallbladder inflammation, infection, or pancreatitis and require timely assessment.
