What should you know about FUE DHI hair transplant?

FUE is the harvesting method: a clinician uses a small punch to take follicular units from a suitable donor area, usually at the back or sides of the scalp. DHI describes a placement approach in which prepared grafts are loaded into an implanter pen and inserted into planned recipient sites. The pen can help the clinician control the angle, direction and depth of placement, but it does not replace careful hairline design or assessment of donor supply.

A consultation should review the cause and pattern of thinning, scalp health, existing hair stability and the number of grafts that can be safely taken. A transplant moves follicles; it does not stop ongoing loss in untreated native hair.

Before treatment, disclose medicines, scalp conditions, allergies and any history of poor wound healing. Follow the clinic’s instructions about washing, smoking, alcohol and medicines. Afterward, protect the grafts from rubbing, pressure, intense heat and unapproved products. Mild swelling, redness, crusting and temporary shedding can occur while the scalp heals. Wash only as instructed and avoid picking crusts. Ask when gentle exercise, hats and hair products are appropriate.

Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain or swelling is worsening rather than settling, bleeding does not stop with the advised pressure, or the scalp becomes increasingly hot, very tender or associated with spreading redness, pus or fever. Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, facial swelling or another severe allergic reaction. Sudden extensive loss in the surrounding hair, new smooth patches or marked scalp inflammation also deserves assessment rather than being assumed to be routine shedding.

Ask which harvesting and implantation tools will be used, how the hairline will be designed, how donor density will be protected, what happens if native hair continues thinning, and which symptoms after treatment should trigger a same-day call.
