What should you know about foot hairline fracture X-ray?

A hairline fracture, also called a [Stress Fracture](/conditions/stress-fracture/), is a small crack caused by repeated loading or an injury. An X-ray can reveal a visible break or later healing changes, but a normal early image does not always settle the question. The clinician combines the scan with the location of tenderness, swelling, walking pattern, recent activity, and pain during pressure.
