What should you know about flu fever duration?

Short answer
Flu fever often improves as the infection settles, but its duration varies and a returning or worsening fever needs medical attention.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Understanding fever with flu
Fever is the body's temperature response to infection and may occur with chills, sweating, aches, headache, and weakness. It can fluctuate during the day and may appear lower after fever medicine without the underlying illness being fully resolved. Look at the whole trend: breathing, alertness, drinking, urination, and general strength are useful context.
A fever is not specific to influenza. COVID-19, a common cold, Acute Bronchitis, and other infections can produce overlapping symptoms. A new rash, localised skin redness, persistent cough, or severe throat symptoms may point to a different problem and should be described to a clinician.
What to do while monitoring
Rest, drink frequent fluids, wear light comfortable clothing, and keep the room at a comfortable temperature. Check your temperature using the same method when you need to compare readings, and record when fever medicine is taken. Use paracetamol or another medicine only if suitable for you and exactly as the label or clinician advises; check combination cold remedies to prevent duplicated ingredients.
Stay home while feverish and reduce close contact with others. Return to normal activity gradually when you are improving, able to drink, and no longer feverish without relying on medicine.
When fever needs medical care
Get urgent help for trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, fainting, a seizure, blue or grey lips, or difficulty waking. Seek prompt assessment if you cannot drink, pass very little urine, have a severe headache with a stiff neck, develop a concerning rash, or the fever returns after improvement. Children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with significant long-term conditions may need earlier advice.
Questions for your doctor
Does my fever pattern fit flu, or should I be assessed for another infection? Which temperature readings or symptoms should trigger urgent care? What fever medicine is safe with my other treatments?
