What should you know about FlowJo flow cytometry?

The instrument records light and fluorescent signals from cells. FlowJo can then help the laboratory organise those measurements, apply analysis gates, compare cell populations, and create plots or reports. A gate is a selected region used to focus on cells with particular characteristics; the choice of gates requires trained review. Software supports the analysis but does not replace the specialist who selects markers, checks sample quality, and interprets the pattern alongside clinical information. The name FlowJo on a report therefore describes an analysis tool, not a separate medical procedure.

Ask the laboratory or clinician which findings were generated from the flow-cytometry data and which conclusions were made clinically. You can request an explanation of plots, gates, cell populations, and marker names in plain language. If the underlying sample came from blood or bone marrow, ask how its collection and quality affect interpretation. Keep the complete report so it can be compared with later results when appropriate.

FlowJo analysis itself does not cause symptoms, but the condition being investigated may need prompt attention. Seek urgent care for severe breathing difficulty, fainting, high fever with deterioration, or uncontrolled bleeding. If you recently had a marrow sample collected, report persistent bleeding, increasing redness, or discharge from the site to the treating team.
