What should you know about FloJo flow cytometry?

A flow cytometer measures features of individual cells, such as size, internal complexity, and signals from labelled markers. FloJo displays these measurements as plots and lets trained users define groups, often called gates, to examine selected cell populations. The software can help compare marker patterns, remove unwanted events, and record an analysis pathway.

Results depend on the quality of the specimen, the antibodies or dyes used, instrument settings, controls, and the analyst's decisions. FloJo is an analysis tool, not a diagnosis on its own. A haematologist or pathologist interprets the pattern with symptoms, examination findings, blood results, and sometimes tissue or genetic testing.

Ask for the written flow-cytometry interpretation rather than relying on a screenshot of a plot. Check which specimen was tested, which markers were measured, and whether the report describes a normal, reactive, or abnormal population. If a bone-marrow sample was used, ask how the flow result fits with the morphology and other marrow findings. Keep questions focused on what the result changes in your care plan.

The software analysis does not create symptoms. Seek advice about an unexplained result or a delayed follow-up appointment. After a sample collection, contact the care team for worsening pain, fever, redness, drainage, or bleeding. Get urgent help for severe bleeding, fainting, severe breathlessness, or rapidly worsening illness.

Ask which cell population was identified, how the gates and controls affected interpretation, whether the finding is conclusive, whether another specimen is needed, and what result or symptom would trigger the next review.
