What should you know about filler for nasolabial folds and marionette lines?

Nasolabial folds run from the side of the nose toward the mouth. Marionette lines extend from the mouth corners toward the chin. Their appearance can reflect expression, changes in cheek support, skin elasticity, sun exposure, and facial structure. A consultation assesses both lines together because adding volume in one area can affect the overall contour. Wrinkles describe the visible skin change; they do not by themselves identify one cause.

Filler changes volume and shadow. It may not correct loose skin, strong muscle movement, or every texture change, so alternatives and limits should be explained before treatment.

Seek urgent medical care for sudden vision changes, severe pain, weakness, or trouble speaking. Do not try to flatten a lump with firm pressure unless the clinician tells you to do so.

Ask which line or support point is being treated; whether cheek, mouth, or chin balance changes the plan; which product is proposed; what alternatives exist; how swelling will be reviewed; and which symptoms require immediate assessment.
