What should you know about fever from mosquito?

A bite itself can cause a local itchy bump, but fever suggests a wider illness or another infection and cannot identify the cause by itself. Some mosquito-borne illnesses begin with fever, headache, chills, muscle aches, nausea, rash, or marked tiredness. The relevant possibilities depend on the country visited, dates of travel, local outbreaks, bite prevention, and other exposures. Tell the clinician about travel even if the bite was not noticed.

Contact a clinician promptly, especially after travel, and record the fever pattern, locations visited, bite dates if known, medicines, and other symptoms. Drink fluids in small regular amounts and rest. Use fever medicine only after checking that it is suitable for you and that you are not duplicating ingredients. Avoid donating blood and prevent further bites until a clinician advises you, particularly after recent travel.

Seek urgent care for confusion, fainting, seizure, trouble breathing, severe headache, stiff neck, repeated vomiting, severe abdominal pain, bleeding, a rapidly spreading rash, yellowing skin, or inability to keep fluids down. A pregnant person, young child, older adult, or someone with reduced immunity should seek advice early. Do not wait for a bite mark or a laboratory result if the person is becoming seriously unwell.
