What should you know about fat grafting to the chin?

Fat is collected from a donor area, processed, and injected in small deposits around the chin. The aim may be to soften a hollow, improve balance with the nose and lips, or create a smoother transition into the jawline. The chin can look fuller at first because of swelling. Shape is assessed later as tissues settle, and the amount that remains can vary between people.

A chin that looks full because of skin, muscle, bone structure, or fat beneath the chin may need a different plan. Added chin volume does not remove a double chin.

Bring photos or describe the profile change you want rather than focusing only on a named procedure. Tell the clinician about medicines, allergies, dental issues, prior fillers or surgery, smoking or vaping, and health conditions that affect healing. Follow instructions about sleeping position, pressure, exercise, wound care, and medicines. Avoid judging symmetry while swelling is changing.

Call the clinic for increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, drainage, fever, or swelling that becomes markedly one-sided. Seek urgent help for trouble breathing, sudden vision changes, facial weakness, or rapidly worsening swelling. Keep the area clean and do not press, massage, or inject it without specific advice.

Ask what is causing the contour concern, where donor fat would come from, how projection will be measured, what alternatives exist, and how a double chin would be addressed if present. Ask when follow-up occurs and which changes are outside expected recovery.
