FAMI fat transfer: what to know

FAMI is a technique within Fat Transfer. A clinician removes fat from a donor area, prepares it, and places small amounts into selected facial areas. It may soften hollows or restore contour using your own tissue. It differs from Dermal Fillers, which use an injectable filler material. Planning depends on facial anatomy, available donor fat, skin quality, and the area being treated; Tear Trough Hollows need careful assessment.

Tell the surgeon about medical conditions, allergies, medicines, smoking, and previous procedures. Ask where fat would be taken from, how swelling may affect appearance, and what aftercare is required. Compare the approach with Dermal Fillers or Lip Fillers if you want a non-graft alternative. A qualified clinician should explain realistic variation and recovery.

After treatment, contact the clinic for increasing pain, spreading redness, drainage, fever, marked asymmetry, or vision changes. Sudden breathing difficulty or swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat needs emergency care. Before treatment, delay elective surgery if you have an active infection or your medical team advises against it.

Ask who will perform each part, where fat will be harvested, what anaesthesia and recovery involve, and which complications need urgent attention. Ask how the plan changes if you have limited donor fat, prior filler, or concerns about the under-eye area.
