What should you know about eyebrow hair loss hypothyroidism?

Short answer
Hypothyroidism can contribute to diffuse hair and eyebrow thinning, but eyebrow loss alone cannot confirm an underactive thyroid.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Understanding the possible link
When thyroid hormone levels are low, hair growth cycles and skin condition may change. Some people notice dry skin, coarse or fragile hair, tiredness, feeling cold, constipation, or changes in weight, but these symptoms are not specific to thyroid disease. Eyebrow thinning may also result from dermatitis, rubbing, nutritional problems, medicines, Alopecia Areata, or Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia. The outer brow can be affected, but its location does not establish the cause.
How to investigate it
Tell your doctor when the brow change began and whether scalp hair, eyelashes, skin, or general energy have changed. Bring a list of medicines and supplements, including thyroid treatment and products used on the brows. Blood tests may be considered when symptoms and examination suggest thyroid disease. Do not change thyroid medicine or start high-dose supplements without medical guidance. Protect the brows from plucking and irritating cosmetics while the cause is being clarified.
When to seek care
Make an appointment for persistent, progressive, or patchy eyebrow loss, especially with new systemic symptoms or scalp changes. Seek prompt attention for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, severe eye symptoms, rapidly spreading inflammation, or marked weakness. A clinician should assess shiny or scar-like skin because some causes can damage follicles if inflammation continues.
Questions for your doctor
Do my symptoms justify thyroid testing? Could another skin or hair condition explain the pattern? Should my thyroid medicine or supplements be reviewed? What signs would mean I need earlier follow-up?

Questions people ask
Is eyebrow thinning a definite sign of hypothyroidism?
No. It can occur with thyroid disease, but many other conditions and habits can produce the same change.
Will treating hypothyroidism restore eyebrow hair?
Hair may improve when thyroid disease is appropriately managed, but recovery depends on the cause and whether follicles are scarred.
