Eye wart removal

A rough or raised spot beside the eye may be a wart, skin tag, cyst, mole, or another lesion. The eyelid has thin skin and sits close to the eye surface, so home cutting, picking, freezing products, or acids can cause bleeding, scarring, infection, or eye injury. A clinician may examine the surface with magnification and decide whether observation, treatment, or testing is appropriate.

Book a dermatology or ophthalmology assessment before trying to remove the growth. If it is suitable for removal, the provider may numb the area and use a method selected for its size, depth, position, and appearance. Follow wound-care instructions closely: keep the area clean, avoid rubbing, and protect it from unnecessary sun exposure while it heals. Do not share towels or deliberately scratch the lesion.

Seek prompt assessment if the growth bleeds without being touched, develops a persistent sore, changes in colour or shape, grows quickly, distorts the eyelid, or causes irritation. After removal, contact the provider for increasing redness, pus, fever, spreading swelling, worsening pain, or any vision change.

Ask what the lesion most resembles, whether it should be tested, which removal method protects the eyelid, how the wound will be cared for, and when normal cosmetics or contact lenses can be resumed.
