Extreme weakness and fatigue during pregnancy

Short answer
Extreme weakness and fatigue during pregnancy can reflect normal demands, but severe, sudden, or persistent symptoms need medical assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What it may mean
Pregnancy changes sleep, circulation, metabolism and the workload of the heart, so tiredness can be pronounced, especially early on or as pregnancy advances. Weakness may also occur with dehydration, low blood sugar, an infection, or anaemia. Anaemia can reduce oxygen delivery and may cause unusual tiredness, dizziness, breathlessness or a racing heartbeat. Notice whether symptoms began suddenly, whether you can eat and drink, and whether fever, bleeding, pain or shortness of breath is present.
What to do now
Sit or lie down if you feel faint, rise slowly, and ask someone to stay with you if you are unsteady. Sip fluids and choose small, regular meals containing protein and iron-rich foods if you can tolerate them. Pace activities, rest, and avoid driving while weak or dizzy. Contact your maternity team or GP promptly if fatigue is interfering with washing, walking, eating or normal daily tasks; they may review medicines and arrange blood tests.
When to seek urgent care
Seek urgent help for fainting, confusion, severe breathlessness, chest pain, a very fast or irregular heartbeat, heavy vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, a high fever, or inability to keep fluids down. Sudden weakness on one side, trouble speaking, or a severe headache is an emergency. Do not wait for a routine appointment if you feel unsafe standing or symptoms are rapidly worsening.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your symptoms could be related to anaemia, dehydration, infection, blood pressure, blood sugar or a medicine. Tell them when the weakness started, how it affects activity, what you are eating and drinking, and whether you have dizziness, palpitations, bleeding or reduced urination.
