What should you know about extreme motion sickness?

Short answer
Extreme motion sickness results from conflicting movement signals and can cause intense nausea, vomiting, sweating, dizziness, and difficulty continuing a journey.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How motion sickness develops
Your eyes may report that the cabin or vehicle is still while the inner ear senses movement and the body detects acceleration. The mismatch can activate nausea, sweating, pallor, dizziness, headache, and vomiting. Symptoms often begin during travel and improve after movement stops, although tiredness or an unsettled stomach may last longer. Severe symptoms can also be worsened by reading, looking down, strong smells, heat, anxiety, or travelling on an empty stomach.
Motion sickness is different from nausea that starts before travel or continues unrelated to movement. Recurrent episodes outside journeys deserve a medical review.
How to reduce symptoms
Choose a seat with the least movement, face forward, look at a stable distant point, and keep air flowing if possible. Avoid reading and heavy meals before or during the journey; small bland snacks and regular sips may be easier. Keep your head supported and take breaks when safe. A pharmacist or travel clinician can discuss preventive medicine, including when to take it and whether drowsiness could affect driving or other tasks.
When to seek urgent care
Seek medical help if vomiting prevents fluids, you become faint or confused, pass very little urine, have blood in vomit, severe abdominal pain, chest pain, a severe headache, or weakness. If symptoms persist after travel ends, occur without movement, or are different from your usual pattern, arrange an assessment rather than assuming motion sickness is the cause.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which preventive options fit your health, when to use them, and whether they cause drowsiness or interact with current medicines. Describe the type of travel, when symptoms begin, how much you vomit, and whether dizziness occurs away from movement.
