What should you know about extreme freckles?

Freckles, also called ephelides, are usually flat, light-to-brown marks that appear more strongly after sun exposure and may fade when exposure decreases. They commonly occur on exposed areas such as the face, shoulders, chest, and arms. Freckles are not the same as every pigmented lesion: a spot that becomes asymmetric, develops an irregular border, changes colour, enlarges, bleeds, crusts, or itches needs clinical assessment rather than a cosmetic assumption.

Use broad-spectrum sunscreen, reapply as directed on the product, seek shade, and use protective clothing. Avoid picking or applying harsh lightening products without advice. A dermatologist can examine the pattern and decide whether monitoring is enough.
