Exhaustion in the first week of pregnancy

Short answer
Exhaustion in the first week of pregnancy can occur with early hormonal changes, although it cannot confirm pregnancy on its own.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What it can mean
Early pregnancy can bring tiredness before other symptoms appear. However, the first week may be counted from the start of the last menstrual period, before conception has occurred, so timing can be confusing. Lack of sleep, stress, a viral illness, dehydration or anaemia can also explain low energy. Fatigue is not a reliable way to date a pregnancy or judge how it is developing.
What you can do
Prioritise sleep, regular food and fluids, and reduce demanding tasks where possible. If pregnancy is possible, take folic acid as advised, avoid alcohol, and check any prescription, over-the-counter or herbal product with a pharmacist or clinician. A home pregnancy test is more useful around the expected period; follow its instructions and repeat or arrange testing if the result is unclear.
When to seek care
Seek urgent help for severe one-sided abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, shoulder-tip pain, fainting or marked dizziness, particularly if pregnancy is possible. Contact a clinician for fever, persistent vomiting, breathlessness, chest pain, confusion or exhaustion that is sudden and disabling. Arrange routine care if tiredness continues, worsens or comes with pale skin, palpitations or breathlessness.
Questions for your doctor
Ask when to test, which supplements are appropriate, and whether existing conditions or medicines need review. Share the date of your last period, cycle pattern, sleep, bleeding, pain and any symptoms such as vomiting or dizziness.

Questions people ask
Does exhaustion prove I am pregnant?
No. Early pregnancy may cause tiredness, but sleep loss, illness, stress and anaemia can feel similar; testing is needed.
Can I keep working when exhausted?
Many people can continue usual activities with rest and adjustments, but dizziness, fainting or disabling fatigue calls for clinical advice.
